Interior decoration is the science and art of improving the interior of a particular building to create a more aesthetically pleasing and healthier environment for those using the room. An interior decorator is usually someone who plans, studies, coordinates, and oversees such decoration projects. This includes such things as decorating a restaurant or hotel, or a person’s home or apartment.
The first step in creating a successful interior decoration plan is to work together with your interior designers to identify and work with every aspect of the room you want to redo. This may include looking at architectural details, floor coverings, lighting, furnishings, windows, walls, ceiling, accessories, and any others aspects that can enhance your home. Your interior designers should then be able to identify and work with each element on your list in order to best meet your needs. After you have identified each item and worked with them, your interior designers will recommend to you the best options for your space based on both your needs and budget.
As interior decoration became a more popular profession in the latter part of the twentieth century, interior design companies began to pop up everywhere. Some were traditional small, family owned businesses, and some were large, international firms. Many people falsely thought that interior design companies were created solely as contractors. This was not the case, however, until the 1980s. Many furniture firms began to offer interior decoration services to people who wished to spruce up their homes or make minor aesthetic changes to their existing surroundings.
