Interior decoration is the art and science of improving the interior of an interior building to create a much healthier and more aesthetically pleasant surroundings for those using the room. An interior decorator is a person who plans, studies, coordinates, and successfully deals with these enhancement projects. Interior decoration projects can include everything from the choice of paint colour or wallpaper to the type of lighting fixtures used and even the choice of furniture. There are many areas of the home that are considered to be best suited for decorative projects, including the bedroom, kitchen, bathroom, hallway, dining room and main entrance door.
Interior decorating is a very broad subject that includes many different styles of interior design. Some of the most popular styles include Art Deco, Fauvism, Colonial, Georgian, Irish, Japanese, Mexican, Neoclassicism, Post-Impression, Renaissance, Transitional, Victorian and Viennese. As interior decoration has a wide range of styles and themes, there are a great number of different ways to approach the project. An experienced interior designer will usually begin by determining the overall theme or concept that is to be achieved, usually based on the surrounding rooms.
The theme can then be worked into the renovation or redesigning of the interiors, often taking in the existing furnishings. Once the overall theme has been worked out, the interior decoration contractor then works on renovating the rooms in stages, sometimes incorporating several rooms at a time in the same project. For large projects, like hotels or offices, the entire facility can be designed and redone under the supervision of just one person, allowing the project to run smoothly and efficiently.
